General Baby Thoughts

For some reason, 18 months feels like a big milestone. Our little girl is one and a half! If it’s possible, Sally’s busier than ever. I think I say that every month. She has learned how to open doors, which has opened up a whole new world of destructive possibilities. But at this point, we’re pretty used to watching her like a hawk, so whatevs. We love seeing her become a little human who uses a fork instead of her fingers at dinnertime and who says, “eeese!” when we tell her to “Say please!” Sally’s favorite game right now is hiding her stuffed animals and then looking at us with her hands upturned, as if to say, “Where did it go?” And her favorite hiding place is on top of her head. Speaking of animals, Sally loves animals, specifically “Goggies!!” otherwise known as “doggies.” It’s pretty darn fun seeing her unique little personality shining through. I think our favorite part about her current age is her growing vocabulary. She loves baths, and the only way she’ll say “Baahh!” is with a whispered kind of reverence. I hear ya, girl.

Financial Baby Thoughts

I keep wondering when Sally is going to stop growing so fast, but she is like a little weed. Currently, 2T is fitting her pretty perfectly, but her feet just had a growth spurt, so we’ll soon be looking for some size 6 shoes. As far as other clothing goes, I spent $22 on a few pairs of pajamas from Costco since her current PJs are all size 18 months. And I spent $17 on two pairs of highly discounted baby Gap skinny jeans for the upcoming fall. Babies in skinny jeans melt even the iciest of hearts, amiright? I also spent $15 on coloring books/snacks/and toys for our recent flight out to DC — which was worth every penny of sanity. And, per the usual, we spent $40 on diapers this month. So the grand total for month 18? $94

And now, some phone pics of our girl. With her favorite motto of “Go, go, go!” that’s about the only way we can get pictures of her these days.

For the been-there-done-that crowd, does this sound pretty typical? How do we relate and differ? At what point should I chop off the mullet? (Please say, “Never!”)

Keep the mullet! My wife wouldn’t let our little guy rock on and it makes me sad. When you need a boost to how awesome a mullet is Youtube “Jared Allen Mullet” and let her live the lifestyle.

Opening doors huh? Our little guy hasn’t figured out knobs yet, but if it has a handle, you can’t contain him. He got in trouble at daycare for opening the back door…. so then he started using his minions to open the doors for him. I was secretly proud he has minions.

All of our doors are handles!!! It’s bad news. It sounds like your little guy is quite the character! Minions at such a young age is very impressive :).

Keep the mullet! Haha. Baby hair is so hard to know what to do with.

Love these posts! You made me want to go back and read Rooney’s 18-month update too! Here’s the link, if you’re interested: http://www.snappycasualblog.com/blog/rooney-18-months

I loved looking over Rooney’s 18-month post. You’ve done such a great job of documenting her!

I am in awe of your self discipline–if I had a little one this cute, I’m not sure I’d be able to limit my spending as well as you do. As I recall, I wasn’t very good at limiting my clothing purchases when my girl was a toddler.
Please don’t put a scissors anywhere near that cute mullet.
Oh and you’ll be posting pictures of Sal in the skinny jeans, right?

It’s hard. There are certain baby clothing sites I just can’t even visit. I start adding clothes to the shopping cart before I even know what I’m doing!!

And yes, pictures of Sally in skinny jeans is gonna become a thing if I’ve got anything to do with it :).

If you chopped off the mullet then her cute pigtails wouldn’t be as long! Another vote for keeping it around 😉

Babies in skinny jeans sound adorable, I’m dying at the photos of my niece and my friends kids in sunglasses and swimsuits this summer, they’re all so stinkin’ cute.

Good point, Anne! Thanks to the mullet, her pigtails are pretty epic.

And I know what you mean… babies in swimwear and sunglasses is just too much cute to handle!

Definitely keep the mullet. She can be a Nascar driver for Halloween. Or maybe a hockey player.

Our boy’s hair grew into a natural Mohawk, all on its own. He just only had hair in this strip down the middle of his head, nothing but peach fuzz on the sides. It eventually grew in all normal, but we miss his crazy baby hair.

Haha, I love those Halloween costume ideas. Yes. This is a must.

      And that mohawk sounds incredible!!

Hang in there on the baby mullet! My little one rocked one until about 2 then it turned into a cute little hairstyle that looks precious with a barrette or bow! So no $ spent on a haircut yet! Baby gap is the best! We have an outlet semi close and. I have been going at the end of each season and buying ahead. Goal is spend no more than $50 and average about $3-5 per item there. You guys do awesome on your baby budget! Now that we have 2 kiddos (my youngest is 15 lbs at 2 months!) it has even hard to stick to a $150 budget….we have spent $120 on diapers and wipes alone this month on amazon mom! Ugh the newborn poop as soon as you change my diaper stage! That’s not even buying ahead…pretty much 4-5 weeks worth 🙁 I think we will need to re evaluate our budget to see where we can cut some spending to add a. Little money to baby budget. Unfortunately, I think I will have to say bye bye to one meal out a month:( I can’t wait until my 2 year old is potty trained. Now just finding the energy and courage to potty train …

Oh, good! You give me hope. I swear her hair in the front just isn’t growing. I’ll hold out a little longer!

There’s nothing worse than having to spend a ton on diapers! How frustrating! Obviously, you have way more motherhood experience than I do, but the best advice I’ve ever been given is “It’s just a phase!” In a few months, the newborn poop stage will have passed, and your little two-year-old will be using the toilet. You can do it, girl!!

My baby boy is about 2 weeks younger than her and everything she’s doing sounds totally normal around here! Our baby is a second boy, with a doting grandma, meaning I have MAYBE spent 50 dollars to clothe him his entire life so far. Hand-me-downs and gifts have been awesome. We recently switched to Sams Club brand diapers, which I think save us more money. 15 cents a diaper (for size 3). Sally is a cute one- and YAY for nursery!

Hand-me-downs and gifts really can save hundreds!! That’s awesome your guy is being given so much TLC by Grandma.

Last week was her first week at nursery, and it didn’t go too well! Here’s hoping it gets better!!
