We’re back! We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect mini-vacay last week. Baby Girl experienced the ocean and the swimming pool for the first time. And we experienced our first vacation with a little one! There were blowouts and two-hour cry sessions in the car, but we still had a blast and managed to get in some much needed R&R.
And don’t worry — we didn’t forsake our budget-minded ways even on vacation. We’ll share how and where we found ways to save during our little getaway.
We’ll be back into the swing of things soon. In the meantime, we’ll be getting back to work (boo!), reading all your comments (yay!), and catching up on the beast that is post-vacation laundry.

Looks like fun! Great pictures 🙂
We had a blast. Now we have to look at the photos and wish we were still there.
Welcome back! Now that you have gotten the first vacation out of the way (and know it isn’t so bad), doing another one will be a breeze!
You’re right. There were certainly some “this isn’t a vacation” moments, but it was nice to get the first one out of the way and realize it was totally worth it. We’ve got our first flight with her in a couple weeks, so this was decent training.
I hope baby girl does as well as my little guy has done (8 Flights in less than a year!). I don’t know what airline you are flying, but I try to sit towards the back where it is a little noisier in so no one can really hear him scream (which, *knock on wood* he wasn’t done). It also puts you near the back galley where you can walk around holding them. Also consider bringing bribes for the baby and for the people around you!
Awesome. Thanks for the tips. And your little guy is a freaking CHAMP. So cool.
Welcome back!! So happy to hear you had fun, and I’m dying over that first picture of Baby Girl. Is there anything cuter than a nice, chubby babe???
Thanks! That girl wears her chubs well. I wish she’d just stay like that forever, but I think she’s already starting to thin out a bit. Booooo.
I am also suffering from post traumatic laundry disorder stemming from a two day getaway. To keep myself sane I stand in front of the dryer and say “beetle juice! Beetle juice! Beetle juice!” …..wait…what???
Hahaha. Sounds normal to me. Speaking of which, I need to go switch out the whites and darks right now. Thanks for the reminder!
I miss the stage where they will still wear the sunglasses without constantly throwing them off 🙂 cute pic! Glad you survived, rested and had fun! The day after returning from vacation is always the worst! It took us an entire time this week to transition back because we went with family and baby girl(now 1) relished in all the attention and really missed it!
I think we’re getting very close to the throwing stage. And we’re definitely feeling post-vacation blues/stress. Give it another day and hopefully we’ll be good.
Glad you hear you had a great time and welcome back!
Thanks. Happy-sorta-not-really to be back! 🙂
Happy to read that you three all had a great time at the beach? So Johnny, did you also enjoy your first Father’s Day yesterday? I sure did as our daughter held her annual bbq dinner at her house for all the dads in her life (ie., me, her bro, a few of her bros-in-law, as well as her hubby’s dad). A great time was enjoyed by all. Welcome back, guys.
It was awesome to finally to be a dad on Father’s Day! It sounds like you celebrated in awesome fashion. Barbecuing sounds like a tradition we should probably incorporate in our festivities as well.
She looks awesome with her little bald head and sunglasses!
I secretly wish she’d keep the bald little head, but the blonde hairs are starting to sprout pretty quick.
Haha, she is definitely workin’ those glasses.
She plays the dumb, naive five-month old pretty well, but that little girl knows what she’s doing.
I’m happy to see your tactics aren’t that far off from what I’ve considered for vacation. Before kids, we traveled well and now that we have kids that kind of changes things. Doesn’t mean we have to skimp but forces us to think differently and still have a good time. Good post.
This really is an activity that everyone must do.
It’s a quick and additionally easy method to keep things simple and easy.
