See those two youngin’s? Well, they’re us, soon after we got engaged. And now, here we are, celebrating seven years of marriage. I used to feel bad for anyone who had been married as long as we have. I imagined how terribly dull their lives must be. And I wondered if they could possibly still be in love, or if it was more of a brother-sister relationship by that point? I swear I’m not a cynic. I just thought newlywed life was where it was at. Well, past self, I can say with certainty that you were wrong!
What can I say about seven years of marriage? We know each other really well at this point. And instead of making things boring, I think we just love being around each other all the more because of it. I thought I knew what love was when we first got married, but what I know now, I hadn’t any clue of back then. You start off a marriage as two separate individuals who love each other a lot. I mean, you married each other for goodness’ sakes! But as each year bleeds into the next, the point where you end and the other person begins becomes more and more hazy, until one day it hits you that you are totally incomplete without the other one. And that’s how I feel about seven years of marriage.
Now, that’s not to say we don’t fight sometimes, as evidenced by our ENTIRE He Says/She Says category. But despite each other’s shortcomings, we’re in it for the long haul because that’s what this whole marriage thing is.
*Sorry if my sappiness made you throw up a little… I’ll keep my inner romantic locked away for the next 364 days :).

So… when I saw this photo pop up in my Bloglovin feed, I just glanced and thought this was a picture of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake… I am sure that your awesome marriage will stand the test of time, unlike their short-lived love. And may you never find yourselves wearing matching denim outfits. Happy 7 years. Cheers!
You crack me up, Miranda! I laughed so hard when I read this comment. Maybe we’ll save the matching denim outfits picture for our 10-year!!
Well thank you! And that 10 year photo would be epic…
Awe I love hearing about people’s marriages. I’m glad it is working so well and as someone who is currently planning a wedding, it is great to hear! 🙂
What an exciting time! Hope all the planning is going well, Hollie!
Aw – happy anniversary! That’s an adorable picture! My sweet hubby and I are almost to 13 years, and it just keeps getting better 🙂
Thanks, Jen! I agree… it does just keep getting better!!
Happy Anniversary! Great picture.
Thanks, Brad!
“But despite each other’s shortcomings, we’re in it for the long haul because that’s what this whole marriage thing is.”
I couldn’t agree with you more, Joanna! Happy anniversary to you and Johnny.
Btw, you guys have a ways to catch up with me and my lady, This past week we just hit # 45!
And that’s not in dog years either! 🙂
Wow! Congrats on 45 years of marriage!!
Big hair don’t care.
Haha, that’s right!
Congratulations! Good, you aren’t getting that seven year itch. 🙂 I’ve been with my partner for six years and it’s great. You learn so much and grow together.
Agreed, Melanie! The long haul is where it’s at! 🙂
Happy 7th Anniversary! My hubby and I just celebrated 7 years of marriage earlier this month and this year we will have been together for 13 years (high school sweethearts)!
Wow!! I love hearing about people who were high school sweethearts. I think it’s so cool that you found each other at such a young age. Definitely meant to be!
Congrats on lucky 7! Well done. A very good photo of both of you from 7 years ago. I loved the Britney/Justin comment. Model-esque.
Thanks, Wade! Haha, I loved the Britney/Justin comment, too. Johnny still gets Justin Timberlake comments from time to time, which always cracks us up!
Well, congratulations on the 7 years! and that is a truly awesome photo: the hair, the light shining, the smiles on both of you–I am so envious of that photo. May your happiness increase as the years accumulate!
Thanks, Eve!! I have a feeling our kids will be quite entertained by that photo when they’re teenagers… I’m sure we’ll never hear the end of it :).
Congrats on year 7! I completely agree with you on this – the feeling of love changes and you begin to feel incomplete without the other one. This year we’ll be celebrating 14 years and we’re not bored at all. 🙂 Great photo BTW.
Wow! Congrats on 14 years! I really do think each year so far has just been better and better!
Brilliant commentary on marriage. Congrats and may y’all have many many more happy years to come!
Thanks, Sarah!! It’s hard to put into words, so I’m glad you understood what I was trying to say! 🙂
