NYC and OFB Update

Swinging Sally

It’s the final countdown! We’re about a week and a half out from my due date, so I wanted to give a little update while I have the energy and brain capacity to do so. One of these days, we’re gonna wake up and our world and family will be changed forever by baby #2’s arrival. (Can’t wait!) Until then, here’s what’s happening around our house these days.

NYC

Johnny and Sally NYC

New York City continues to torture us with frigid temperatures. February was the third coldest on record ever. I’m super excited for a few days in the 50s this week. That should tell you how awful it’s been. Despite that, we’ve really been enjoying our final weeks as a family of three. We’ve been getting in last-minute socializing with friends who we know we won’t talk to for months after going into newborn mode. Johnny and I have gone on TWO real dates in the city in the last few weeks, which is downright crazy for us. And Sally and I hit up a playground almost every day, and will continue to do so until this baby comes. We have at least 20 playgrounds within a mile of us, and probably 10 within half a mile. Now just combine that with warm weather, and Sally’s going to have the best summer of her life.

Finances

Since the beginning of the year, a big chunk of Johnny’s paycheck has been going toward beefing up our HSA, just in case we decide to use that money for the baby’s birth. Currently, we’re considering leaving the money in to grow for the forseeable future and just paying everything out of pocket. But it’s good to know we have money set aside for the birth, just in case.

We’re also gearing up for our Aflac payout, which we’re hoping will pay for most of the baby’s and my hospital stay. Last time the payout was $4100, but we’ll keep you posted on what happens this time around!

Our budget is surviving out here, although we’re having to be much more conscious with every dollar we spend because everything’s just a tad more expensive. I’m interested/scared to see how we do once the baby arrives. Although newborns in and of themselves don’t cost much, they do inflict a certain sleep deprivation that might impair our budgeting.

Sally

Sally NYC Playground

Sally is officially a potty-using lady! It’s been about four weeks now, and for the most part, she’s a champ at never having an accident. But we’ve had a couple of really weird days when she just goes when and where she pleases. I assume she’s testing us to see how we’ll react? No idea. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we have some of that happen again when the baby shows up. We’ll do a more extensive post on this topic very soon.

We’ve also added a big-girl bed to Sally’s room! We’ll be sharing more about choosing between a toddler bed and a twin bed… we decided to go with a twin. For now, Sally’s still using a crib, but we plan to transition her in a few months before she and the baby start sharing a room.

Baby #2

Newborn Essentials

We’re getting super excited to meet baby #2.We’re still not sure of a name! But all of your recommendations really helped, and we’ve got a list of five names we both like, which is nothing short of a miracle. So thank you! Now we just have to meet her and see what fits!

We’re all stocked up on diapers and wipes, so the baby can come when she pleases. I also got all my final nesting insanity in this past week — scrubbing the grout in our kitchen, reorganizing Sally’s closet, and doing a final load of newborn laundry. That was all just on Monday, actually. Johnny says this is when my OND kicks in — obsessive nesting disorder. I will not deny this. So for all of our sakes’, let’s hope this baby shows up before long.

We did a hospital tour a couple of weeks ago, and Johnny and I took a cab to the hospital so we could time how long the ride would be when I’m in labor… 15 minutes door to door! Oh, and the hospital’s only three miles away, but that’s NYC for ya. I also spent a good chunk of last Saturday getting a pedicure and manicure while Sally and Johnny had some daddy-daughter time. It was the best gift and splurge a husband could give his almost-due pregnant wife.

So that’s where we stand, just prior to becoming a family of four! We’re excited/anxious/excited to see how our lives change when this new little one joins us. Any predictions on when this baby is going to show up?

Our little guy had zero problems going from a crib to a twin bed. He was actually pretty excited about it because we sold it to him as a big boy bed and that the baby sleeps in the crib. We also let him pick out the bed sheets for his big boy bed (he picked Spider-Man and the Avengers).

As far as predicting an arrival date? I have no idea since my wife went 6 and 4 weeks early each time, so we are terrible at this full term thing.

Oh, that gives me hope! I really hope Sally does okay with the twin. We’re keeping her confined in the crib as long as possible for sanity’s sake (and because I don’t trust what she’d do during the night if she wasn’t confined). But the day will come in just a few months when that’s no longer an option!

My doctor refuses to predict when the baby’s going to show up, so it’s just a waiting game. We shall see!

Ah! So exciting!!!! I hope you get some warm weather soon, it will make everything easier and nicer if the sun is shining and it’s warm. I predict April 8 for baby’s birthday!

I know! If the weather’s warm when the new baby arrives, it will be so much easier to go on walks and get out! April 8 sounds good to me! We’ll see!

Joanna, where is the pic of your bump? I hope you don’t have to wait too long. Those last few weeks are rough, or at least for me they are! I am excited to hear how things go. Maybe you should just walk to the hospital when you start active labor so it doesn’t stop, haha!

Haha, I’ll have Johnny take a picture this weekend! This past week was rough with just feeling really big and uncomfortable, but at this point, it can’t bee too much longer. Right? Right???! I walk miles every day out here, and apparently that doesn’t do ANYTHING because here I am, 39 weeks preggo!

Baby arrival prediction? I predict that you guys are going to have a little Easter Bunny! 🙂
    Good luck mommy!

That gives the baby two days to arrive! We’ll see if she cooperates!

Thanks for the update! Exciting times ahead, hope all goes okay and the little lady arrives safe and sound… As to when she makes an appearance, second time around I would hazard a guess at due date or just before… Have a little wager with Johnny on it 🙂

As long as I don’t go overdue, I’ll be a happy camper. 39 weeks and counting! Hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself by saying that! 🙂

You’re so prepared! I guess I shouldn’t expect anything different 🙂 Enjoy this last week or so and GOOD LUCK! So exciting!

Thanks! We’re hoping to enjoy this (possibly) last weekend as a family of three!

Babylations! A week and a half away and don’t know a name yet? That’s exactly where we are too! Sending you lots of prayers for a quick delivery and a healthy family! 🙂
