General Baby Thoughts
I think this month it’s finally hit me just how fast our girl is growing up. In less than a month, we’ll be celebrating her first birthday! I’ve been having so many flashbacks of this time last year when I was waddling everywhere and frantically preparing for the arrival of our baby. Boy, have our lives changed since then! Baby Girl brings so much life into our home. Currently, she loves clapping, shaking her head “No,” and trying to tickle her dad.
In an effort to keep things real, I have to confess that up until a couple of weeks ago, I was still nursing her one or two times during the night. But since she’ll start drinking cow’s milk come January, we decided it was high time she sleep through the night without feeding. And so with a few days of sleep training, our girl is now sleeping eleven or twelve hours without waking up. I know we’re late to the game, but better late than never, right? She’s happier during the day, and so are we!
Financial Baby Thoughts
In the past month, we haven’t had any expenses out of the ordinary with Baby Girl. Aside from diapering ($40) and feeding ($40), we haven’t spent any other money. Of course, this is partly due to the fact that we have a Christmas budget to spend on her. We’ve used that to buy her some more clothing and some toys — she can only play with measuring cups for so long! We’ll be detailing how much money we budgeted on her Christmas this year and how we spent it, very soon.
Our baby finances only came to $80 this month! Hallelujah! I think this calls for a few extra pictures of Baby Girl at eleven months, if you’ll indulge me 🙂

She is adorable! My little one didn’t sleep through the night until we started milk then she started sleeping 11-12 hours. Its so nice to have more sleep. Sounds like an awesome month baby bucks wise! I love it when only the necessities need to be bought! We also only spent about $80 last month. This month we will be spending on our higher end though due to a great diaper deal from Target where I had awesome coupons, the diapers were on a sale and I received a $20 target gift card for buying 2 mega boxes. She also needed some winter sweaters and new pants…she is growing like a weed already in 2T even though she just turned 18 months!
Thanks, Halsy! It has felt so empowering to be able to sleep through the night again. And it was a great month spending-wise, which was a nice perk, too :).
You’re so good at snagging deals! And your little one sounds like ours! Our girl grows out of her clothes faster than I ever could have imagined!
She’s so cute! That last picture makes me want to tackle her… in a non creepy way, I promise.
They do grow fast. It’s hard to believe my little girl is 2. We need a pause button.
Thanks, Brad! It’s crazy how much they change in such a short amount of time. I’m just trying to soak it all in!
she is adroable! Will you do a post on sleep training…how you did it? the good, the bad, the better? how long did it take? ferber method? etc, etc…thanks!! -one tired mama
Thanks! I’m certainly no expert on sleep training, and it’s a very personal decision on how one goes about doing it. My pediatrician recommended The Sleep Easy Solution (http://amzn.to/1d7HGJX), and I pretty much followed it to a T. It addresses the individual sleep problems that babies face and how to address them. It took her about four days to catch on, and Johnny and I pretty much went into it knowing that those days would be rough. There is crying involved, but the book really helped us look at the big picture and be less emotional. Obviously, there’s a lot more to be said, but hope that helps for now!
Congratulations on still nursing at 11 months! I don’t know if you had any issues at any point but even if you didn’t it’s still awesome that you have made it this far. She is so adorable.
Thanks, Jennifer! Nursing has been pretty smooth sailing, which I feel lucky about!
How time flies, eh? Ok guys, so are you making plans to soon introduce Baby Girl to Santa at the mall? It’s never too early, even if the first meeting between them might get to be a tad “dramatic”! 🙂
Yes, of course, we’re planning to take our girl to see Santa! I know she will hate it, but I’m so looking forward to the photo op. And I’m sure she’ll love the picture someday. It’s every baby’s rite of passage!
What wonderful pictures! And nice job keeping baby expenses to $80 this month – that is awesome! You guys rock.
Thanks, Laura! With Christmas and her birthday coming up, we might not be so lucky with her expenses next month!
I can’t believe it has been a year!! I love the first picture, she looks like a baby hipster 🙂 By the way $80 is phenomenal.
I can’t believe it, either! The picture I didn’t include was the one of her promptly ripping that hat off. But I love babies in hats, so I will continue to try until she’s old enough to stop me!
She is adorable! Good for you making it so long nursing, not an easy task for sure. And yay for babies sleeping all night! That is such an exciting milestone. Probably more so for mom and dad!
She is just so adorable 🙂
She is sooo cute! 🙂
Thank you for sharing your photos of baby girl with us! She is just so precious. I can’t believe how fast they grow up….
