Quotes That Make Cents is a running series of quotes we find particularly money-motivational. This quote is brought to you by the wise Teddy Roosevelt.
Feel free to pin, share, or print and slap on the fridge next to your expired Domino’s Pizza coupon.
Life’s difficult enough without pitting ourselves against others. So let’s let the Joneses be Joneses and just focus on ourselves.
That is all.

Please open up a shop and offer this as a print so I can buy it and hang it on my wall.
Thank you.
I’ll combine it with our up-and-coming cat hair sweater store. We’re waiting for the weather to get a little warmer so Persie will be in optimal shedding condition.
Or to think of it in another way, don’t compare oneself to the Joneses but to ourselves in the past, as we stand today, and looking ahead to where we want to see ourselves in the near and long-term future. Successful businesses prepare a 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year goal-setting plan and it is wise if each of us personally tries to do the same, not only financially but also in other areas of our lives. Thus this type of personal inner comparison can then be the achievement of joy. Roger, over and out. 🙂
Comparing ourselves to ourselves is where the focus should be. Roger that.
Love this!
I am a sucker for quotes, love it!
I so needed to read this. I try to take this advice, but sometimes I get so caught up in comparing. It really does a number on your psyche, so gotta cut it out!
Believe you me, this quote wouldn’t be going up if it wasn’t something I constantly need to be reminded of. Like you and Uncle Joey said: cut it out!
Funny, in our old life, we were constantly comparing ourselves to others. Now in our new “getting out of debt” life, we don’t want anything to do with the Joneses, because they’re all living a life chained to their jobs and their debt. NO, thank you!
Amen, sister! How cool is that mindset! What you (we) used to idolize is now something we feel sorry about. All that comparison energy can just be used to keep fueling debt/financial independence efforts.
I enjoy this quote. I will take one print on my cat hair sweater.
Haha. Better yet, I’ll embroider it when the shop’s up and running. Actually, I might be overpromising since Joanna’s the seamstress in this house. I’ll have to get back to you on that.
