Memorial Day Greetings

A Memorial Day Hello

Here’s to you, Long Weekend. With your impending arrival, Johnny and I discussed and rediscussed the possibilities. A weekend filled with sand and sun? A history-packed weekend in Charleston? We weighed the costs (literally and figuratively) of taking a road trip. How much were we willing to spend? Would there be any relaxation with a four-month-old in tow? We still don’t know the answer to that last question because we decided to keep our activities close to home. When we do finally take our first long-ish day trip with Baby Girl, we want to have planned for every possible scenario (aka, baby disaster). So instead, we’re spending the weekend doing this:

  • Sleeping in
  • Taking walks
  • Going out for ice cream cones ($3.00)
  • Cleaning our house from top to bottom
  • Folding weeks of backed-up laundry
  • Strolling the botanical gardens ($3.00)
  • Hiking
  • Watching Arrested Development (we’re a few episodes in and sorta so-so on it)
  • Experimenting with new diaper brands

The last one has been interesting (read: the cause of Baby Girl’s worst blowout ever). I’m sure I’ll share more on that subject soon. But until tomorrow, we’ve got a few more things to add to our list. And, really, as long as our little one looks like this at the end of the day, we’ll consider it a success:

Baby Girl

Hope you’re enjoying your Memorial Day weekend!

Enjoy your day off, guys, as will I since, for this retired dude, every day is a day off – tackling the projects in my “honey do” jar ! 🙂

Tough life, Rob. 🙂 Hopefully you’re making the “honey do”s become “honey done”s.

Your baby girl is adorable! Sounds like a nice weekend! Good luck with the diaper testing! We had a good amount of blowouts at that 3-6 month stage before solids. We especially had a lot when we used some huggie snug and dry diapers we had been gifted. Jealous of the sleeping in! My baby girl thinks 545 am is sleeping in 🙂 we are soon venturing into the world of longer traveling with baby a 13 hr drive for vacation and a plane ride to visit family. Getting very excited and even more nervous! We have done 1-4 hour trips some and sometimes she does great and sometimes she cries the whole drive!

After reading your comment, we heard the same thing about blowouts and this age from a few other friends. Looking forward to the fun!

We’re in the same boat with upcoming travel. Look forward to hearing your experience. And hopefully she’s a perfect, happy little angel.

Looking at that sweet face and having the words “blow-out” echo in my mind is a disturbing thing.

Hahaha. Trust me, it’s very disturbing.

She is SO precious…those round cheeks!

In the first few months, they eat such small amounts more often and new parents change diapers at the moment a drop hits! Once she starts settling on her normal intake and is eating more per feeding the blowouts begin. I found diaper choice did not matter in the early months. However, later on Huggies was all that worked. My youngest would sleep from 7pm to 9 am (we had to wake her!) and we had to use TWO overnight diapers on her. She slept on her tummy, butt in air so we had to make sure one was high on her stomach and one on the back! Check for samples of different brands on the web or email companies (maybe try a review/giveaway…use this blog!!).
Wish I could tell you this only lasts a short while…alas at 5 & 4 my girls have problems sometimes! That is WHY they are made so cute…too make up for the years of hard labor!

You had to wake her?! What an awesome problem to have! And that’s quite the system you figured out. We’ll see if we resort to new tricks, but we’ll wait and see if this was an off day or a soon-to-be normal occurrence.

“That is WHY they are made so cute…too make up for the years of hard labor!” LOVE this. 🙂
